Admissions Policy for the
Advanced Certificate in Project Management:

1. BACKGROUND

   1. This certificate is based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (5th Edition) (PMBOK) with a strong real world PM component. As such RWPM sets stringent standards for admission to this course.
   2. RWPM goes one step further than providing students with a basic understanding of PM. The Advanced Certificate in Project Management (ACPM) is aimed at providing working professionals with the knowledge and tools to function as professional project managers. The course is intense and the pass mark for the 4 hour examination is set at 80%. Therefore, admission requirements reflect this high standard and is set as follows:
      Option 1:
      Bachelor's degree plus at least 3 years' working experience in the candidate's professional field.
      Option 2:
      National Diploma plus 4 years' working experience in the candidate's professional field.
      Option 3:
      At least a Matriculation (Grade 12) certificate plus 7 years' working experience in the candidate's professional field.
   3. The ACPM is an outcomes based course and as such set rigorous standards ensuring graduates are able to successfully function as professional project managers. This course is aimed at providing Government and Industry with the assurance that the ACPM qualification ensures professional project management in the work place.
   4. In special cases Admission Requirements may be relaxed after review by Dr. Oosthuizen. For instance a candidate may be short of one year's experience, but comply with all other requirements. Another case might be the candidate has enough experience but is in the process of completing a tertiary qualification. This review is on a case by case basis and at the sole discretion of Dr. Oosthuizen. Disclaimer: even though such candidates could be admitted to the ACPM course, such candidates must understand that the rigorous standards set will not be relaxed – candidates will have to work hard and the pass mark remains at 80%.
